Robinhood is a US brokerage app whose crypto unit (Robinhood Crypto, LLC) began live trading in February 2018 and now sells ~90 coins, including memecoins such as DOGE, SHIB, PEPE, BONK, WIF and TRUMP. Default trades have no explicit fee: Robinhood is paid inside the spread, keeping 0.95% of notional from its market makers as of June 2026. Optional exchange routing instead charges 0.00%-0.95% fee tiers. A separate non-custodial Robinhood Wallet app charges a 0.80% swap fee.

Is Robinhood legit?
Robinhood Crypto holds app balances. Robinhood Wallet is a separate self-custody app run by Robinhood Non-Custodial, Ltd. (Cayman Islands).
Backers: Series G (investors not named in source) ($660,000,000), 2020-09; Ribbit Capital (lead), with Iconiq Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia, Index Ventures and NEA ($3,400,000,000), 2021-02.
Incidents on record
- 2021-11-03: Data security incident (social engineering). An attacker socially engineered a support employee by phone and got a list of ~5 million email addresses, ~2 million full names, and more personal details for ~310 people. Robinhood said no SSNs, bank or debit card numbers were exposed, and it received an extortion demand. Source
- 2022-08: NYDFS $30M penalty on Robinhood Crypto. New York's financial regulator fined Robinhood's crypto unit $30M over alleged anti-money-laundering and cybersecurity compliance failures. Source
- 2024-05: SEC Wells notice to Robinhood Crypto (closed without action). The SEC sent Robinhood Crypto a Wells notice in May 2024. On 2025-02-21 the SEC Enforcement Division told the unit it had concluded its investigation and did not intend to recommend an enforcement action. Source

Robinhood Markets was founded in 2013 and listed on Nasdaq (HOOD) in July 2021. Robinhood Crypto, LLC is licensed by New York's DFS. Incidents: a November 2021 social-engineering breach (~5M emails), a $30M NYDFS fine in 2022, and an SEC probe closed without action in February 2025.

Can I buy memecoins on Robinhood?
Yes. Robinhood Crypto lists DOGE, SHIB, PEPE, BONK, WIF, FLOKI, PNUT, POPCAT, MOODENG, PENGU and TRUMP, among others. Several of these aren't tradable in New York. Tokens it doesn't list can be swapped in the separate Robinhood Wallet app.
What does Robinhood Wallet charge to swap?
Robinhood Wallet charges 0.80% on same-chain swaps and 0.73% on cross-chain swaps. The 0x or LI.FI aggregator adds 0.05%, or 0.12% for LI.FI cross-chain, and network fees come on top. It's a self-custody wallet, separate from your Robinhood Crypto account.
Does Robinhood have a referral program?
Yes, for US residents. Referrers earn stock rewards at milestones: $50 for 1 referral up to $10,000 for 200, capped at $15,000 a year. Friends can get a separate sign-up stock reward. Rewards are stock, not crypto.
