Coinbase lets AI agents trade its Deribit-powered global derivatives outside the US

Eligible non-US customers can now let a connected AI app place perpetual futures trades on Coinbase's Deribit-run international derivatives. US customers are not eligible for this offering.

Perpetual contracts on the global gateway 125+
Maximum leverage on the global gateway Up to 50x

Coinbase said on 2 November 2026 that its global derivatives, powered by Deribit, are live for eligible traders on Coinbase for Agents. The service lets customers connect a Coinbase account to an AI app, such as Claude, ChatGPT or Grok, to research markets and place trades within limits the customer sets.

Coinbase's help centre says Global Derivatives are available only to eligible customers in supported regions outside the United States. Customers need an existing Coinbase spot account, must complete derivatives onboarding and verification, and fund a Global Derivatives portfolio with USDC, BTC, ETH or other accepted collateral. In Australia the product is limited to wholesale investors.

For customers outside the listed jurisdictions, Coinbase Bermuda Limited acts as broker and custodian and is a member of the Deribit exchange, which is run by Dubai-licensed Deribit FZE. Coinbase moved its international derivatives from Coinbase International Exchange onto this Deribit-powered gateway on 1 October 2026. Its developer docs list 125+ perpetual contracts, including equity and commodity perpetuals, with up to 50x maximum leverage, and say options and dated futures are not yet available through the gateway.

Coinbase says customers choose what an agent can access, can require approval before each trade in most agent apps, and that agents cannot send funds off Coinbase. Its agent setup guide currently describes separate agent portfolios as spot-only, so an agent's derivatives access is not walled off in the same way. Coinbase warns that AI agents may make mistakes and that users carry the risk of trades their agents execute.

In the US, Coinbase has offered agent trading of index and crypto perpetual-style futures since October 2026 through Coinbase Financial Markets, its CFTC-registered futures broker. That is a separate product from the Deribit-powered global offering.
