MetaMask adds Stellar as a default network on mobile and extension
Every MetaMask account gets a Stellar address from its existing recovery phrase. A new address needs at least 1 XLM to activate, and each token trustline locks 0.5 XLM.

MetaMask made Stellar a default network in its mobile app and browser extension on 29 October 2026, announced at the Stellar Development Foundation's Meridian conference in Lisbon. Existing accounts get a Stellar address derived from the recovery phrase they already have, with no extra setup, and can hold, send and receive XLM, trustline assets and Soroban tokens and swap between Stellar and other supported networks.
Stellar addresses work differently from the EVM networks MetaMask started on. MetaMask's help page says a new Stellar address is not recognized on the network until it receives at least 1 XLM, and that an unfunded address can only receive XLM. To receive any other token, such as USDC, the account needs a trustline, which costs a small network fee and locks 0.5 XLM until it is removed.
Same-chain swaps in MetaMask create the trustline automatically, but cross-chain swaps cannot. MetaMask warns that if the trustline is not in place when bridged funds arrive, the funds can be lost. Network fees on Stellar are paid in XLM, and standard MetaMask fees also apply.
Users of other Stellar wallets can import their recovery phrase into MetaMask. Stellar joins Bitcoin, Solana and Tron among the non-EVM networks MetaMask supports.
“From today, MetaMask users can transact on Stellar directly”
— Gal Eldar, Chief Product Officer at MetaMask, via Stellar press release
Who this affects
MetaMask mobile and extension users who want to hold or swap XLM, Stellar USDC or Soroban tokens, and Stellar users moving to MetaMask.
