LP burn (burned or locked liquidity)

LP burn means the tokens that represent a liquidity pool deposit have been destroyed or permanently locked, so that liquidity can never be withdrawn. It removes one common rug pull route, where the creator pulls the pool. It does not stop large holders from dumping tokens into that pool.

What LP tokens are

When someone deposits two tokens into an AMM pool, they receive LP tokens representing their share. PumpSwap's program docs describe this: depositors receive LP tokens and withdraw liquidity by burning them in return. Whoever holds the LP tokens can take the liquidity back out. If they are burned, nobody can.

Burned, locked and permanently locked

GMGN's token checks distinguish locked LP, which can be retrieved when the lock expires, from burned LP, which has been sent to a burn address and cannot be retrieved. GMGN shows the burned share as a percentage. A pool that is 100% burned cannot be withdrawn by the project.

Raydium's Burn & Earn feature works differently. Raydium's docs say the LP tokens or position NFT are locked in a program-owned escrow rather than destroyed. The liquidity can never be withdrawn, but trading fees keep accruing to whoever holds a transferable Fee Key NFT. Raydium's API exposes the locked share as a burnPercent field.

Pump.fun's program docs say that when a coin graduates, the LP tokens from the new PumpSwap pool are burnt.

What a burn does not protect against

Dedaub's explainer describes a rug pull as either removing liquidity or dumping supply. LP burn only addresses the first. A creator or insider group holding a large share of supply can still sell into the burned pool and drain most of its value. Supply concentration, bundled launch buys, an active mint authority and an active freeze authority all remain separate risks.

How to use it

Treat the burn percentage as one input. Check it alongside holder concentration, authorities and trading history. GMGN's copy-trade settings even let users require a minimum pool burnt ratio before a copy buy executes. A low or zero burn on a young token means the pool can still be withdrawn.
