Gemini Exchange
Gemini is a New York-based crypto exchange founded by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, live since October 2015. It runs under a New York limited-purpose trust charter and has been listed on Nasdaq as GEMI since September 2025. Simple buys in the app use quoted fees plus a spread, while the ActiveTrader order book charges maker/taker fees of 0.60%/1.20% at the base tier.
Cost: ActiveTrader order book: maker 0.60% and taker 1.20% at the base tier, falling to 0.00% maker and 0.02% taker above $250M in 30-day volume. Simple buys, sells and conversions in the web and mobile app do not follow a published rate table. Gemini says the fee is calculated per order from payment method, order size, market conditions, jurisdiction and asset, shown on the trade review screen, plus a spread on Instant and Recurring orders. Those app trades can cost more than the ActiveTrader figure. The round trip shown is 2 x the base taker rate. A $1,000 buy-and-sell costs about $24.00 in Gemini fees.
Sign-up perk: The same amount as the referrer ($50, EUR 20 or AUD 50, by region) once the qualifying trade is made.

Gemini FAQ
Is Gemini legit?
Gemini has operated since October 2015 under a New York limited-purpose trust charter and listed on Nasdaq (GEMI) in September 2025. Its Gemini Earn program froze in November 2022, leading to SEC, NYAG and NYDFS actions; Earn users were repaid in kind through a 2024 settlement.
What are Gemini's fees?
ActiveTrader charges 0.60% maker and 1.20% taker at the base tier, falling with 30-day volume to 0.00% and 0.02% above $250M. Simple app buys show a fee per order on the review screen, plus a spread. Debit card deposits cost 3.49%.
What is Gemini ActiveTrader?
ActiveTrader is Gemini's order-book interface with maker and taker fees set by 30-day volume or asset balance. Tiers recalculate daily at about 2am UTC. It is separate from the simpler app mode, which uses per-order fees and a spread.
Gemini vs Coinbase: which costs less?
