Custody: who holds your money
Trading uses the embedded Nansen Wallet, powered by Privy; Nansen's help center says it is non-custodial and Nansen never accesses the keys. You cannot connect or import an external wallet for trading, only deposit from one. One wallet per chain. Withdrawals on web require MFA. Portfolio tracking works with any wallet address.
Who backs Nansen
- Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), with Skyfall Ventures, Coinbase Ventures, imToken Ventures, Mechanism Capital and QCP Capital (Series A) — $12,000,000 (2021-06) source
- Accel, with GIC, a16z, Tiger Global and SCB 10X (Series B) — $75,000,000 (2021-12) source
Incidents
- 2023-09-20: User data exposed through a third-party vendor. Nansen said an attacker gained admin access at an unnamed vendor it used for customer access, exposing the email addresses of about 6.8% of users, password hashes for some and blockchain addresses for a smaller share. Users were told to reset passwords; wallet funds were not affected. source
Real downsides
- The default 0.75% per spot swap (1.5% buy plus sell) costs more than Fomo's 1% round trip, unless you hold Pro or climb tiers.
- Trading only works through the embedded Nansen Wallet; you cannot connect MetaMask or Phantom to trade.
- Perps are unavailable in the US and UK, and Nansen's help center lists both as restricted for spot trading too.
- A 2023 vendor breach exposed about 6.8% of users' email addresses and some password hashes.

Nansen's Terms of Service (updated 2026-08-10) say access 'may be restricted' in 'the Gelephu Mindfulness City Special Administrative Region and the Kingdom of Bhutan, Singapore, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, and certain regions in Ukraine (including Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk)', and add 'For the Perpetuals Feature ... the United States and the United Kingdom'. Its trading help article goes further and lists the US and UK as restricted from spot and perps trading. Its outcome-contract feature has a longer list that includes the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Hungary and Ireland. The first list applies to all of Nansen, analytics included. (source)
We report what the venue's own terms say. Don't use a VPN to get around restrictions; venues can freeze accounts that do.
How to use Nansen without getting scammed
- Only open nansen.ai — fake lookalike sites and "support" DMs are the most common way people lose funds on any trading venue.
- Never share a seed phrase or private key. No real support agent will ask for one.
- A referral code only changes your fee and who gets a share of it. It never needs your keys.
- Treat every new memecoin as able to go to zero. A legit venue does not make the coins on it safe.

FAQ
Is Nansen safe?
Nansen uses an embedded wallet whose keys you can export. We list 1 reported incident below, so read those before depositing. No platform makes the coins you trade on it safe.
Is Nansen legit?
Nansen is an onchain analytics company, live since April 2020 and backed by a16z (Series A) and Accel (Series B, $75M, December 2021). Its trading wallet is non-custodial and powered by Privy. In September 2023 a breach at a third-party vendor exposed about 6.8% of users' email addresses; wallet funds were not affected.
How much does Nansen cost?
The Free plan includes limited analytics and one active smart alert. Nansen Pro, the only paid plan, costs $69 a month, or $49 a month billed annually ($588 a year). API credits are $10 per 10,000. Trading fees are separate: 0.75% per spot swap at the default tier, 0.45% with Pro.
What are Nansen's trading fees?
Spot swaps cost 0.75% at Unranked, 0.45% at Green or with Pro, 0.25% at Ice, 0.175% at North and 0.10% at Star. Perps add a Nansen builder fee of 0.08% down to 0.01% on top of Hyperliquid's base fee. DEX pool fees and slippage are extra.
Does a Nansen referral code give a discount?
Yes. Nansen says new users who sign up through a referral link get 10% off their paid plan and a 0.67% spot trading fee instead of 0.75% while they are Unranked. The referral is locked at signup, and the link is remembered for 30 days in the same browser.
Can I use Nansen in the US?
Nansen's analytics are available in the US. Its terms bar US and UK users from the perps feature, and its trading help article lists the US and UK as restricted from spot trading as well. Using a VPN to get around the restrictions breaks Nansen's terms.
