Jito tip

A Jito tip is a SOL payment to one of Jito's tip accounts that bids for your transaction or bundle to be included by validators running Jito's software. Tips go to validators and their stakers. They are separate from, and usually paid alongside, Solana's normal priority fee.

Where tips fit

Jito runs a block engine that receives transactions and bundles from traders, bots and apps. It runs an auction and forwards the most profitable combinations to validators. Jito's docs say bundles carry tip bids that are redistributed to validators and their stakers.

A tip is any instruction that transfers SOL to one of Jito's eight tip accounts. Jito's docs say a tip is necessary for a bundle to be considered, and that the minimum is 1,000 lamports. During busy periods the minimum may not be enough to win the auction.

Bundles

A bundle is a group of up to five transactions that Jito says execute sequentially and atomically, within the same slot. If any one fails, none are committed. That all-or-nothing property is why bundles are used for arbitrage and for launch-time strategies where several buys must land together.

Tip versus priority fee

For single transactions sent through Jito, the docs recommend splitting the total between a priority fee and a Jito tip, giving 70/30 as an example. Jito publishes a tip floor API and dashboard showing recent tip levels. Trojan, for example, calls it a bribe. Its FAQ says gas on Solana goes to validators, and to Jito when MEV protection is used.

What it means before you trade

A tip is a flat SOL cost per transaction, so on small trades it can matter more than the percentage fee. Turning on MEV protection can add a tip. Check the defaults, because a tip set for competitive launches is wasted on a routine swap. You can see what you actually paid by opening the transaction on an explorer.
