Builder codes (Hyperliquid)

Builder codes are a Hyperliquid feature that lets a third-party app or bot charge its own fee on trades it sends for you, on top of Hyperliquid's trading fees. You approve a maximum fee per app once, the fee is applied onchain, and you can revoke it at any time.

How builder codes work

Hyperliquid's docs say builder codes let builders receive a fee on fills they send on behalf of a user. The user first signs an approval of a maximum builder fee for that builder's address, from their main wallet rather than an API wallet. After that, each order the app sends can include the builder's address and a fee up to the approved maximum.

The fee is processed onchain as part of Hyperliquid's fee logic. A user can have at most 10 active builder approvals, and can revoke permissions at any time.

The caps

Hyperliquid caps builder fees at 0.1% on perps and 1% on spot. Builder codes apply only to fees collected in the quote or collateral asset. That means they apply to both sides of perp trades but not to the buying side of spot trades. Builders must keep at least 100 USDC in perps account value.

A real example

Pump.fun's fees page says that perps traded on Hyperliquid through its app carry a builder fee of up to 0.10% of each order's notional value. You approve it by signature on first use, and it is shown as a separate line before you confirm. Hyperliquid's own trading and funding fees are charged on top.

What it means before you trade

When you trade Hyperliquid perps through a terminal, wallet or bot, your all-in fee is Hyperliquid's fee plus that app's builder fee. On a leveraged position the builder fee applies to the full notional, not your margin. Check the maximum you are asked to approve, compare it with trading on Hyperliquid directly, and revoke approvals for apps you stop using.
